Identification Of True Labor

There is a huge difference between true labor (labor prior to delivery) and false labor (uterine contractions). Here is a list of the differences between the two:

Characteristic of Uterine Contractions

True Labor: Regular Intervals
False Labor: Irregular Intervals

Contraction Time

True Labor: Interval shortens gradually
False Labor: Long, may disappear

Intensity

True Labor: Increases gradually
False Labor: Unchanged intensity

Radiation on Pain

True Labor: Back and Abdomen
False Labor: Chiefly in the lower abdomen

Cervix Dilatation

True Labor: Cervix Dilates
False Labor: Cervix does not dilate

Effect of Sedation

True Labor: It does not alleviate the discomfort
False Labor: Relief of Discomfort
